Franklin County sits in the northern part of East Texas. The Sulphur River forms its northern border with Red River County. It is bordered on the east by Titus County, on the southeast by Camp County, on the south by Wood County and on the west by Hopkins County. Mount Vernon is the county seat. To get from Franklin County to Tyler proceed east on U.S. 67 toward Mount Pleasant passing through the community of Winfield. Turn right on U.S. 271/Highway 49 and turn right again on U.S. 271 toward Pittsburg. Stay on U.S. 271 through Pittsburg and Gilmer.
