Navarro County lies approximately 40 miles south of Dallas on Interstate 45. The county seat is Corsicana. The county takes in a little over 1,000 square miles of mainly Blackland Prairie. Navarro County is bordered on the northwest by Ellis County, on the southwest by Hill County, on the south by Limestone County, on the southeast by Freestone County, and on the northeast by Henderson County. The Trinity River forms the entirety of its northeastern boundary with Henderson County. Navarro County is divided into eastern and western halves by Interstate 45 and roughly into north and south halves by State Highway 31. The majority of Richland Chambers Reservoir is in the eastern half of the county. Oil was discovered in Navarro County in 1894 and oil and gas production have been an important part of the county’s economy. In 1850 Navarro County had a population of 2,190. After the discovery of oil the population increased to about 47,000 in 1900 and to about 60,000 in 1930. The population tapered off in the late 20th Century to about 30,000 in 1970. As of the 2000 census the Navarro County population was 45,124 which included 16,491 households with a median household income of $31,268. The economy is diversified between distribution, agribusiness, oil and gas production, and manufacturing. The county is the home to Navarro College.

From Navarro County to Tyler is an almost straight shot eastward along Highway 31. Proceed east on State Highway 31 passing through Kerens, Trinidad, Malakoff, Athens, Murchison, Brownsboro, and Chandler. At the intersection of State Highway 31 and Spur 364 in Smith County turn right and follow Spur 364 to its intersection with the southwest corner of Loop 323 in Tyler. Turn right on Loop 323 and stay on South Loop 323 passing through it’s intersection with State Highway 155 and U.S. Highway 69. At the southeast corner of Loop 323 turn left on State Highway 110.
