PG&Eâ??s
Long Record of Run-Ins With Regulators: A â?˜Cat and Mouse Gameâ?? |
|
Over more
than two decades, the California utility has at times misled regulators,
withheld data and hindered investigationsâ??accumulating fines and judgments of
$2.6 billion. The Wall Street Journal identified repeated instances over 25
years in which PG&E misled regulatory authorities, withheld required
information, didnâ??t follow through on promised improvements, engaged in
improper back-channel communications with regulators or obstructed an
investigation.

Deputy's Lawsuit Claims He Was Fired After Reporting Theft of County
Resources |
|
A Texas
lawsuit alleges a Williamson County deputy was retaliated against for
reporting a Sheriff for unethical behavior. The former deputy says he lost his
job in July after reporting that the county sheriff was using county time and
resources for his own personal gain. The plaintiff saw the Sheriff having a
county mechanic fix his personal vehicle. According to the lawsuit, the
county's charges against the plaintiff listed in his termination "were not
valid and were actually made up in retaliation for Plaintiff reporting the
illegal activities of the Sheriff."

School Repeatedly "Misplaced" Girl, Parents File Suit |
|
A Texas
couple has filed suit against the Round Rock Independent School District
alleging staff at Teravista Elementary School lost their daughter four
different times. On four occasions, the child was incorrectly sent home on a
bus when she was supposed to be sent to an after-school program. According to
the lawsuit, in two instances, the after-school program staff sent a
confirmation to the parents that the young girl had checked in, when she had
not. The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and asks the school district to retrain
its staff.

Dive Boat Owners Maneuver to Head Off Lawsuits |
|
Truth
Aquatics Inc., which owned the Conception, where 34 people perished in a fire
off Southern California filed a lawsuit Thursday to head off potential
litigation. The legal maneuver has been successfully employed by owners of the
Titanic and countless other crafts â?? some as small as Jet Skis â?? and was
widely anticipated by maritime law experts. Still, the fact it was filed just
three days after the deadly inferno Monday came as a surprise to legal
observers.

|
A
Salmonella outbreak linked to pig ear dog treats has now sickened 143 people
in 35 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.
That's an increase of 16 people since the last update on July 31.
While they are meant to give to dogs, humans have been getting sick from
handling the treats and from not properly washing areas that came in contact
with the treats. There have been at least four recalls of pig ears since July
3.
