Bedford Firefighter is Awarded Workers' Compensation for Cancer
spacer image
Firefighter Keith Long, who has stage 4 colon cancer, won a major victory this week in his two-year dispute with the City of Bedford over workers' compensation benefits. Long argued that his illness was caused by on-the-job exposure to carcinogens. A state administrative law judge ruled in favor of Long late Wednesday. Long's attorney said that the terms are confidential but that the judge ruled that Long suffered an occupational disease in the course and scope of his employment. The Texas Municipal League, which handles workers' compensation claims for Bedford, has 15 business days to appeal to a Texas Department of Insurance panel.

The daughter of late actor Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in November 2013, has filed a lawsuit against car manufacturer Porsche. The movie star died when the Porsche Carrera GT he was driving in a high-speed car chase crashed and caught fire. The race was part of a charity event for Walker's foundation, Reach Out Worldwide. The lawsuit filed against the car manufacturer alleges that the Carrera GT's design defects led to the crash and the death of the plaintiff's father.
