Click on the headline to learn more. | Texas Tribune Daily Brief | | Woman Named as "Porn Star" By Radio DJs Awarded $1M | | On Friday a jury awarded a Missouri woman $1 million for an incident in which she was identified as a "porn star" on a commercial radio station in Kansas City and on their website. Her lawsuit, filed against the radio owners and broadcasters, accused the defendants of invasion of privacy and negligent supervision. The plaintiff was identified as a "porn star" after local radio DJs asked callers to identify area residents who worked in the adult film industry. After two callers sent in the plaintiff's name, the DJs named her on the radio show and online. The plaintiff was awarded $250,000 in actual damages and $750,000 in punitive damages. Staff Reports, The Denver Channel 09/26/2014 | Read Article: The Denver Channel | Ohio State University Denies Ex-Band Director's Lawsuit | | Ohio State University has strongly denied allegations put forth in a lawsuit filed by its former band director. The band director was fired in July after a university investigation revealed that he was aware of a "sexualized culture," including hazing and harassment, within the school band, but failed to stop it. He has filed a lawsuit seeking his reinstatement and at least $1 million in damages. The school has strongly denied the allegations, claiming that the lawsuit "lacks both substance and merit." Karen Farkas, Cleveland.com 09/26/2014 | Read Article: Cleveland.com | Engineer Files Suit Over 2013 Train Derailment | | An engineer for the Metro-North Commuter Railroad Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut has filed a lawsuit over a May 2013 derailment. The incident took place when an eastbound train derailed, collided into an oncoming westbound train. Dozens of people were injured in the collision. The engineer filed the lawsuit over injuries he sustained while working on the eastbound train. His lawsuit alleges he sustained serious, painful and permanent injuries, including post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and acute anxiety. As of Friday, 23 death claims had been deemed eligible, as well as 16 claims for serious physical injuries, according to updated statistics provided by Feinbergâ??s office. The inquiry covers about 1.69 million of the compact cars from the 2006 to 2010 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will decide whether to open a formal investigation. Associated Press, El Paso Times 09/29/2014 | Read Article: El Paso Times | Iowa City VA Patients Not Told About Bacteria Problem | | Leaders of the Iowa City VA hospital here plan to spend $6.5 million to combat a potentially deadly bacteria that has been found in the facility's water pipes, but they have not informed patients about the problem. Legionella bacteria can cause Legionnaires' disease, a dangerous type of pneumonia. VA administrators confirmed to the Register that they've found the bacteria in several sinks and other water outlets in the past few years. But they said they've been able to control the problem, and they have not seen the need to cause alarm by telling patients. The El Paso Department of Public Health also increased the number of people who may have been exposed to 858.
