Amputee Awarded Benefits in Rare Order

Jane Hays who lost her leg in a car accident on the way back from a work meeting will start receiving her workers' compensation benefits after all ' at least for now. The Texas Division of Workers' Compensation ordered the insurer (Texas Political Subdivisions) to start immediately paying Jane Hays temporary income benefits and cover the cost of her reasonable and necessary medical care.

Overloaded Federal Courts Lead to Delays in Civil, Criminal Cases
Across the country, federal district courts have seen a rise in recent years in the time it takes to get civil cases to trial and resolve felony criminal cases as judges' workloads have increased, according to statistics from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The problem is particularly acute in some federal courts such as California's and Texas's Eastern Districts. Judges there have workloads about twice the national average and say they are struggling to keep up.

Fig & Olive Faces Lawsuits Over Salmonella Outbreak

Multiple lawsuits have been filed against the Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. locations of restaurant Fig & Olive, which has been linked to a salmonella outbreak. According to Food Poisoning Bulletin, these two of the restaurant's locations have been accused of causing illness in as many as 160 people in five states. Reports indicate that nine of the California cases of illness were caused by the same strain of salmonella as the D.C. cases. The restaurant is a New York-based chain.

Cleveland Cardiologist Found Guilty of Unnecessary Medical Procedures

After facing several lawsuits by former patients, a cardiologist from Cleveland, Ohio has been found guilty by a jury on Friday afternoon of performing unnecessary procedures and over-billing insurance companies. After the four-week trial, the cardiologist was found guilty of health-care fraud and 13 counts of making false statements relating to health-care matters.

Lance Armstrong Settles Case With Promotions Company

Lance Armstrong has settled a decade-long dispute with Dallas-based SCA Promotions that sought repayment of more than $10 million in bonuses it paid the former cyclist during a career that was later exposed to be fueled by performance-enhancing drugs.
