Jury Returns $12M Verdict, But OHSU May Not Pay

spacer image

A Multnomah County jury on Thursday unanimously found that OHSU Hospital should pay a Klamath Falls family $12 million after doctors botched a liver operation on a 9-month-old boy in 2009, forcing the infant to undergo an emergency liver transplant. But it's unclear just how much the hospital, which admitted its doctors were negligent, will ultimately pay for the care of Tyson Horton, now 4. The verdict exceeds a cap established by the Oregon Tort Claims Act, which limits how much OHSU and other public bodies must pay for employees' negligence causing personal injury or death.

Acetaminophen “ the active ingredient in Tylenol “ is considered safe when taken at recommended doses. Tens of millions of people use it weekly with no ill effect.
