2013 Making a Difference Award | TTLA is now accepting nominations for the Making a Difference Award which is periodically awarded at the discretion of the TTLA Executive Committee and recognizes a client (past or present) of a TTLA member whose actions demonstrates the critical role of the civil justice system in protecting the rights of Texas families. Lawsuit Says Company Exposed Workers to Asbestos | | An employee at a Missouri electric company has filed a lawsuit against the company claiming it knowingly exposed employees to asbestos and other harmful substances. The lawsuit, filed last week in Missouri's Jasper County Circuit Court, is seeking class-action status. According to the lawsuit, the electric plant has asbestos insulation around its pipes which contain œdangerous concentrations of asbestos fibers. The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages œin the form of the costs associated with establishing a medical monitoring program for class members. NY Paramedic Who Mocked Patients Online Sued | | A New York woman has filed a lawsuit against an ex-paramedic after discovering the man took and posted a photo of her online, mocking her for being overweight. According to the lawsuit, the defendant had a Twitter account which he used to post photos of people and say offensive things about black, Jewish, Asian and fat people. Jury Returns $12M Verdict, But OHSU May Not Pay | | A Multnomah County jury on Thursday unanimously found that OHSU Hospital should pay a Klamath Falls family $12 million after doctors botched a liver operation on a 9-month-old boy in 2009, forcing the infant to undergo an emergency liver transplant. But it's unclear just how much the hospital, which admitted its doctors were negligent, will ultimately pay for the care of Tyson Horton, now 4. The verdict exceeds a cap established by the Oregon Tort Claims Act, which limits how much OHSU and other public bodies must pay for employees' negligence causing personal injury or death. M.D. Anderson President Comes Under Fire | | More than half of clinical faculty members at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center responding to a new survey said an administration demand to increase clinical revenues has compromised patient safety. Seventy percent of respondents said they were considering leaving M.D. Anderson. The results were presented Wednesday during a faculty senate meeting with UT System Chancellor Dr. Francisco G.
