Click on the headline to learn more and register. | Ruling in Oil Claim Lawsuit Sides with Gulf Keystone | | A lawsuit which was filed by former U.S. Special Forces captain seeking his stake in Gulf Keystone's Iraqi oil fields reached a ruling today. The soldier "said that he took the idea to Gulf Keystone and was promised a 30 percent share that he argued was worth $1.6 billion." The judge presiding over the case ruled that the soldier's company did not live up to its obligations set forth in its contract with Gulf Keystone. Kit Chellel, Bloomberg 09/10/2013 | Read Article: Bloomberg | Child Sex Abuse Lawsuit Reaches $1.5M Settlement | | The parents of a girl who was repeatedly molested by a minister at a North Carolina Catholic church have reached a $1.5 million settlement in their lawsuit against Diocese of Charlotte. The lawsuit alleged that the church "had a pattern of hiring and protecting sexual predators" which led to the abuse of their 13-year-old daughter. The minister was arrested in 2009 for "taking indecent liberties with a child" and was sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2011. The lawsuit granted $1.2 million to the child and $340,000 to the parents. The plaintiff, who was a manager at a bank and enjoyed modeling, says she cannot complete everyday tasks and has had to move back in with her mother as a result of the brain infection. The lawsuit alleges that the manufacturer did not adequately warn users about the harsh side effects of prolonged use of the drug. William Carter, a Harris County resident, alleges in a petition he filed on Aug. 28 that, when he sought a bail quote from Kubosh Bail Bonding, he was provided a quote that also included attorney services. Carter alleges in the petition the defendants' conduct constitutes civil barratry and violates the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.
