Honda Recalls 1 Million Vehicles World-Wide

Honda Motors has issued a recall of 1 million vehicles across the globe to fix electrical and software glitches. In some of the vehicles, water can accumulate on the passenger windows, which can "degrade the [power window] switch's electrical contacts and potentially cause a fire." In other vehicles, an bug in the manual transmission software can cause the motor to rotate in the opposite direction of the engine.  Staff Report, Chicago Tribune  09/06/2011

Family Awarded $2.9 Million in Hit-And-Run Lawsuit

A Pennsylvania judge has awarded $2.9 million to a Bensalem, Penn., family whose 14-year-old daughter was killed in a 2004 hit-and-run. The man responsible for the accident was driving while intoxicated, but police determined that road conditions and other factors caused the accident. The family was awarded wrongful death damages, as well as punitive and survival action damages.  Laurie Mason Schroeder , PhillyBurbs.com  08/31/2011

Suit Filed over Fatal Medical Helicopter Crash

A Kansas City man has filed a lawsuit against an air ambulance company and others over a medical helicopter crash that killed his wife last month. In his lawsuit, the plaintiff says Air Methods Corp. failed to implement a policy "for transporting patients with adequate fuel reserves," the alleged cause of the accident. FDA Issues Warning About Merck Antipsychotic Drug

The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning this week that some users of the Merck antipsychotic drug Saphris have experienced "serious allergic reactions. The agency said patients could experience "anaphylaxis, swelling, low blood pressure and swollen tongue." The company has revised the label on the drug to reflect the potential risk.  Staff Report, Baltimore Sun  09/01/2011

Suit Filed over Fatal Hate Crime in Mississippi

A Mississippi family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against seven local white teenagers who allegedly beat a member of their family to death in June. According to the lawsuit, after a night of drinking, the teens went out with the intent of beating up an African-American. The defendants “took turns beating [the victim] for an extended period of time, and then one of the teenagers drove over [him] with a Ford F-250 truck." Former Borders Employee Files Suit Against Company

A former employee at a Borders bookstore in Michigan has filed a lawsuit against the company over the massive layoffs made earlier this summer. The lawsuit claims the company violated the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act by failing to give the employees 60 days notice before making the massive layoffs. The lawsuit is seeking "60 days' unpaid wages, pension contributions, healthcare and other benefits."  Nick Brown, Baltimore Sun  09/02/2011
