Investigation:
Show of Force |
|
USA TODAY
and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel spent more than a year investigating G4S, a
global security empire that is largely unknown to the American public even
though its guards are omnipresent in daily life. The reporting revealed a
pattern of questionable hires often driven by low wages, high turnover and
pressure to sign new contracts and bring on enough guards to meet the
requirements. Some employees who raised safety concerns were ignored, punished
or threatened while G4S executives cast the most serious incidents as
aberrations.

The
family of Jacob and Natalee Dean have filed a lawsuit against Aghorn
Operating, Inc., Aghorn Oil & Gas, Inc., Gilliam's Aghorn Energy, Inc. and
Sentinel Transportation, LLC. in the wake of the couple's death due to H2S gas
exposure. Dean was responding to a pump house on October 26 for Aghorn when he
was exposed to the hydrogen sulfate. His wife went out to the location after
she hadn't heard from him and was also overtaken by the gas.

Investigation:
Are Texas Elevators Safe? |
|
A WFAA
investigation found significant problems in the state's program to ensure the
safety of Texas' 40,000 passenger elevators ' including missed inspections,
neglected elevators, shoddy record-keeping and failing oversight. A major
problem is that the state has no inspectors on its payroll. Though the state
does have a chief inspector and a deputy based in Austin, neither actually
completes inspections.
