Police Throw Out Mother's Ashes, Son Files Suit

spacer image

A man from Muncie, Indiana has filed a lawsuit after police threw his mother's ashes in the garbage after searching his home. Detectives were conducting an investigation of a robbery in which the plaintiff was a suspect. Believing that the plaintiff had drugs crushed into a powder, they took the urn with his mother's ashes. The urn was later tossed in a trash can outside the plaintiff's house. The lawsuit seeks compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages, in addition to attorney's fees.
