Jury Awards $8.4M to Boy Paralyzed by Physical Abuse |
|
A California jury has awarded $8.4 million to a child who was paralyzed after doctors failed to miss signs that he was being abused. The Amador County jury awarded the large sum to the 6-year-old boy who became paralyzed after physical abuse. Named as defendants in the lawsuit are four of the child's family members and his physician group. Jurors stated that the medical providers are responsible for half of the monetary award, but if the judge applies the malpractice cap, they would have to pay no more than $250,000. An attorney for the plaintiff said that they would appeal that decision. Cathie Anderson, The Sacramento Bee 10/20/2017 |

Lawsuit Filed Over Fatal Utah Plane Crash |

The estate of a couple from Utah who were killed in a plane crash has filed suit against the estate of another couple killed in the same crash. The lawsuit was filed by the family of the couple killed while flying to Idaho with their friends. The wrongful death suit filed in 2nd District Court on Friday alleges that the couple who owned and operated the plane were negligent by "failing to use reasonable care in the ownership and or operation of the airplane." The lawsuit states that witnesses told the National Transportation Safety Board that it was obvious that something was wrong with the plane as soon as it first took off. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages to be determined in court by a jury. Pat Reavy, The Deseret News 10/21/2017 |
