The family of a 26-year-old man with Down syndrome who died in a movie theater has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence on behalf of the sheriff's deputies who forced him from the theater. The lawsuit names the deputies, the movie theater, the shopping center's property manager, the sheriff's office and the county as defendants. On January 12, the 26-year-old and his aide had gone to see a movie. After he went back in to see the movie a second time and refused to leave, he was handcuffed and forced out by three off-duty deputies. He then fell to the ground and died as a result of asphyxia. The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages.

Accident Where a Child Was Thrown From Taxi Results in Lawsuit

Two passengers in a taxi accident have filed a lawsuit against the cab driver and the driver who hit them, causing their 14-month-old child to be thrown from the car. The couple was riding in a cab when a 63-year-old woman ran a stop sign and hit the cab. The lawsuit alleges negligence on behalf of both drivers which led to the serious injuries of the passengers. The parents both suffered hip injuries and the child was airlifted to a medical center for treatment. Both of the parents are also involved in a pending case after being charged with fourth-degree violation of the infant restraint law because the child was not in a car seat.

Five female former New York inmates have filed lawsuits alleging sexual assault by a former corrections worker, who was convicted earlier this year of having criminal sexual contact with seven female inmates. These five lawsuits claim that officials "did not adequately protect the women inmates after being made aware of [the defendant's] 'inappropriate relationship' with a female inmate in July 2010." Each of the women are seeking jury trials, unspecified compensatory and punitive damages and attorneys' fees.
