According to Toyota, the recall, which incorporates model year 2016 and 2017 Prius vehicles, stems from parking brake cables that may unexpectedly stop working while the parking brake is activated. The 56-year-old man died in July after he contracted an infection caused by mucormycosis mold. The lawsuit filed in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court this week alleges that the plaintiffs' family member died as a result of "professional negligence" by hospital staff. The complaint seeks damages for "earning capacity, medical expenses, and the physical and mental pain, suffering, inconvenience, embarrassment and loss of the pleasures of life." A Twiggs County jury recently awarded $9.7 million to the man's family, who alleged that the poorly maintained highway road caused the man's death. The lawsuit alleged that the Georgia Department of Transportation "did not properly maintain the roadway and neglected to place any signs of warning of the nature of the roadway ahead" about water accumulating.
