Costs Waived for Plaintiff Who Lost Age Discrimination Suit Against
Walmart |
|
An order
requiring a former Walmart employee to pay costs to Walmart after losing an
age discrimination lawsuit has been vacated. A panel of the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Ninth Circuit based in San Francisco voided an order by U.S.
District Judge R. Gary Klausner for the plaintiff to pay $6,000 in costs to
Walmart. The panel majority ruled that Klausner wrongfully granted Walmart's
application for costs.

Facing Lawsuit Over Deadly Fort Lauderdale Crash |

Tesla has
been sued by the father of a driver who died in a fiery crash in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida. The 18-year-old driver was killed after losing control on
a curve and careening into a concrete wall, causing the car to immediately
catch fire. The lawsuit filed against the California car manufacturer blames
the car's allegedly faulty battery for the young man's death. The complaint
was filed Oct. 8, 2019, in the Superior Court of California in Santa Clara
County.

|
A $1.25
million settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed over the death of a
Michigan inmate whose water supply was cut off. The wrongful death suit was
filed against the state Department of Corrections and its health care
contractor by the family of the inmate. According to the complaint, staffers
at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility turned off the water in the
woman's cell as punishment for allowing toilet water to spill on her blanket.
She became severely dehydrated and suffered respiratory failure, liver
failure, and renal failure and died in October 2017.
