Toyota Recalls 7.43M Vehicles |
| Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 7.43 million vehicles in the U.S., Japan, Europe and elsewhere around the world for a faulty power-window switch.The recall announced Wednesday affects more than a dozen models produced from 2005 through 2010. The power-window switch on the driver’s side didn’t have grease applied evenly during production, causing friction in the switch and sometimes smoke, according to Toyota. Gov’t Warns Repaired Cars May Have Counterfeit Air Bags |
| Car owners whose air bags have been replaced in the past three years may have had dangerous counterfeit bags installed, the Obama administration warned Wednesday. Only 0.1 percent of the U.S. vehicle fleet — about 250,000 cars on the road — are makes and models for which counterfeit airbags are known to be available, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement. Industry officials briefed by the government said tens of thousands of car owners may be driving vehicles with counterfeit air bags. Government Files Underwriting Suit Against Wells Fargo |
| The U.S. Attorney's office has filed a lawsuit against Wells Fargo, accusing the banking giant of defrauding "government-backed mortgage insurance program of hundreds of millions of dollars" by underwriting hundreds of thousands of home loans. The suit claims the bank engaged in "deficient training, deficient underwriting and deficient disclosure." Pfizer Settles Investor Suit for $164 Million |
| Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. has agreed to pay $164 million in a class-action shareholder lawsuit accusing the company of misrepresenting clinical trial results of the drug Celebrex. In the suit, Pfizer was accused of misrepresenting clinical trial results in order to make the drug seem safer than rival drugs. Firm Linked to Meningitis Outbreak Settled Suit in 2005 |
| The Massachusetts-based New England Compounding Center has settled a wrongful death lawsuit with a local woman whose husband died from meningitis he contracted through contaminated steroids produced by the firm. The man died in 2004 and the suit was settled in 2005. The firm is in the spotlight again, as another meningitis outbreak in the northeast has been linked to the company's steroid injections.
