A woman from Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit over an incident in which her dog was mauled to death at a PetSmart salon. As detailed in the complaint, the plaintiff took her 12-year-old dog to the grooming salon, but received a call later that the dog had been taken to the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (VREC) following an attack by another dog. The plaintiff states in the lawsuit that PetSmart is responsible for her dog's death and that there should be safety protocols put in place to avoid such attacks.

Texas Churches Suing FEMA After Being Denied Aid

FEMA is facing a lawsuit by three Texas churches who say that they should receive disaster relief funds following Hurricane Harvey. "The churches aren't getting their help. The churches are being told they have to wait and the churches are being denied the opportunity for equal access here," says an attorney for the churches. Named as plaintiffs in the case are Harvest Family Church in Cypress, Hi Way Tabernacle in Cleveland, and Rockport First Assembly of God. The churches, which were denied eligibility by FEMA, allege in the lawsuit that they should have the same access to disaster relief grants that any other entity has.

A man who had bypass surgery died at a VA hospital in Michigan last year after a nurse mistakenly believed he didn't want to be resuscitated in an emergency, investigators said Tuesday. As a result, the nurse no longer provides direct care, investigators said, noting that it was the third time in four years that he was "involved in significant monitoring deficiencies in high-risk patients." No names were released in the report by the inspector general at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
