N.C. Man's Death by Diagnostic Scope Infection Center of Lawsuit

A lawsuit has been filed over the death of a man from Statesville, North Carolina, who contracted a superbug at a hospital in Charlotte. The lawsuit was filed by the man's wife and contends that he died after he contracted a fatal infection during a routine medical procedure at Carolinas Medical Center. The complaint names as defendants the producers of the diagnostic device and the machine that was supposed to clean it. Olympus America Inc. and Custom Ultrasonics Inc. are at the center of multiple legal actions over the nationwide health scare.

Indianapolis Teacher Convicted of Sex Abuse Faces Lawsuit

A former student at an Indianapolis School District school who was sexually abused by a teacher has filed a lawsuit. The teacher, who admitted to having a sexual relationship with the then-16-year-old student, was sent to jail briefly and received a probation sentence. According to the complaint, the school was aware of the former educator's predatory history with students but continued to employ him. The lawsuit alleges that the teacher and others violated Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination and harassment in schools that receive federal money.

Lawsuit Filed Over "Ponderosa Jump" Deaths

A lawsuit has been filed over the deaths of two teenagers from Spokane Valley, Washington who were killed in an auto accident. Both 15-year-olds were riding in the car of another teen who was driving over "the Ponderosa Jump," a dip in the road which locals used to "catch air." The car left the roadway and hit a tree, causing the deaths of the two passengers. The driver of the vehicle, who had been driving at least 70 mph in a 25 mph zone, had just received his license the day before the accident. The lawsuit was filed against Spokane Valley and Spokane County, who allegedly knew of the dangerous road conditions.

Costco E. Coli Outbreak Linked to Vegetable Mix from California

An E. coli outbreak linked to chicken salad sold at Costco stores has been traced to a celery-and-onion mix used in the chicken salad. The multi-state outbreak of E. coli has caused the illness of at least 19 individuals so far. A recall notice for the celery-and-onion mix made in California was posted on the website of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The vegetable mix was tested by Montana state health authorities and came back positive for E. coli. According to the article, "infections have been reported in Montana, Utah, Colorado, California, Missouri, Virginia and Washington state."

Wrongful Death Suit Over Ala. Pyrotechnics Factory Explosion

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed over an explosion at an Ultratec pyrotechnics factory in Alabama which killed two employees. The lawsuit was filed by the family of one of the employees who was killed during the explosion in February. The complaint alleges that the company failed to provide a safe work environment for the woman who died in the explosion. The lawsuit names as defendants Luna Tech, the property operators, MST Properties LLC, and the pyrotechnic distributor, Pyroam Inc., in addition to four managers and ranking officers.
