Wells Fargo bankers reportedly overcharged hundreds of business customers, chasing bonuses based on how much revenue they brought in, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday. |
A settlement reached after about 45 minutes of closed-door negotiations has spared University of Texas President Gregory L. Fenves from having to testify about the schoolâ??s sexual misconduct policy, and it also effectively cleared a male student who had been accused of such misconduct. U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks said simply that the studentâ??s lawsuit against UT and its president had been â??concluded by settlement.â?? Ryan Autullo, Ralph K.M. Sexual Assault Lawsuit Against House Speaker Hastert Past Statute of Limitations |
One of two lawsuits filed against former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert has been dismissed by a judge in Illinois. Kendall County Judge Robert Pilmer ruled that the statute of limitations on one of the lawsuits had long run out by the time it was filed. The lawsuit, filed by a man in his 50's, alleged that Hastert sodomized the plaintiff when he was in the fourth grade in a bathroom stall in Yorkville in the early 1970s. The plaintiff alleges he reported the abuse about a decade later, but was intimidated and threatened into silence by authorities. The lawsuit was dismissed last week with prejudice. Home Insurance? Use It and You May Lose It |
The "Use It or Lose It" joint study by United Policyholders and the Rutgers University Center for Risk and Responsibility found that this is now a "huge problem" for homeowners. "Insurance companies collect information on consumer inquiries and claims and share the information with each other through national databases," according to the report. "If a policyholder is dropped by one insurance company, it can be hard to find comparable coverage at an affordable price." The report not only points out collusion between insurers, but also suggests intimidation. Worse yet, an insurer may drop a homeowner or raise their premium just for making an inquiry about a possible claim. Insurance companies use a national database called C.L.U.E., run by LexisNexis, to determine who are the good and bad risks for all types of insurance, particularly auto and home coverage.
