The plaintiff had a cardiac stent inserted at the John Cochran VA Medical Center in February 2009. Due to the doctors using infected tissue to repair the damage, an infection developed in his leg, which had to be amputated. The $8.3 million settlement will pay $6.8 million to the 43-year-old Askew and $1.5 million to his wife.

A Bronx man has filed a lawsuit after a video of him being beaten by several 7-Eleven employees went viral last year. The employees thought the plaintiff had stolen a Snickers bar from the convenient store and proceeded to beat him and strip him down to find the candy. The incident was recorded by a bystander, and the video went viral. The plaintiff claims "the internet frenzy has exacerbated his mental stress and well-being." He was charged with robbery, assault, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property.
