Whistleblower Lawsuit Filed by Former KU Lab Director | | A former University of Kansas lab director has filed a whistleblower lawsuit which alleges he was fired after reporting the misuse of grant funds. The lawsuit, which was made public on Thursday, was filed in a Douglas County state court. The plaintiff alleges that, after "persistently expressing good faith concerns" about poor financial management, he was fired in an act of retaliation. The lawsuit names the Kansas Board of Regents, the university and several employees as defendants and seeks the plaintiff's reinstatement as laboratory director along with back pay, damages and attorney’s fees. Des Moines Man Attacked in Bar Suffers Brain Damage | | A Des Moines, Iowa resident, who was severely beaten in a local bar, has filed a lawsuit against the bar and a party bus company. The plaintiff was attacked by an intoxicated man who was traveling by party bus to various local bars. As a result of the fight, the plaintiff suffered brain damage which kept him in the hospital for several weeks. The lawsuit alleges that the bar failed to "provide a safe and secure premises," and that the party bus company should have recognized the intoxicated man's condition. Investigation: Houston Doctor Accused of Selling False Hope | | USA TODAY investigation finds experts questioning why Houston doctor ( Stanislaw Burzynski — an internist with no board certification or formal training in oncology)is allowed to continue to offer his alternative cancer treatment with antineoplastons. There are many reasons why Burzynski has been able to stay in business so long. VA’s Malpractice Tab: $845 Million in 10 Years | | The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs paid out roughly $845 million in malpractice cases during the past 10 years — a period that has seen the agency face scrutiny for giving bonuses to medical professionals who provided or oversaw substandard care. An investigation by reporters from Cox Media Group found that taxpayers have paid 4,426 veterans and their family members who brought malpractice claims against the VA medical system since 2003. Unattended Woman Dies at SD Detox Center | | A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the daughter of a Sioux Falls, South Dakota woman who died at the Minnehaha County Detoxification Center. According to the lawsuit, the woman was left unattended for three hours at the facility before she was found dead by a detox technician. The woman had tried to take her own life by drinking rubbing alcohol and was brought to the detox center by police officers who responding to her 211 Helpline call. After she was brought to the center, she was placed face down on a bed and left unattended for three hours.
