Husband of Wife Killed in Rice-Area Bicycle Accident Files Court Order | | The husband of a woman who died in a fatal bicycle crash near Rice University last month filed a temporary restraining order against the trucking company that operated a dump truck involved in the wreck. Lawsuit Filed Against Uber | | A lawsuit against Uber claims that Uber uses technology that is distracting for its drivers. Since the service is run through smartphones, Uber drivers have to have their phones with them in order to find a customer's location and to also learn the route to the customer's drop-off location. In July of 2017, Jimena Martinez was involved in a car crash after she was picked up by an Uber driver in central El Paso. Opioid Judge Demands Litigation-Funding Deals for His Review | | The judge overseeing more than 600 lawsuits targeting opioid makers is demanding local governments' lawyers turn over any litigation-funding agreements so he can insure lenders have no control over the cases. Ex-NTSB Chair To Advise Uber On Safety After Fatal Crash | | Uber Technologies Inc. said Monday that it has tapped former National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Christopher Hart to advise it on safety amid ongoing investigations into the fatal Arizona pedestrian accident involving one of the company's self-driving cars in March.
