OSHA: 3 Willful Violations Led to TPC Group Plant Blasts in Port Neches

OSHA cited the owners of TPC Group where November blasts and fires injured three workers and caused widespread damage to the surrounding community and said in a statement that it cited TPC for three willful violations by not developing and implementing procedures for emergency shutdown and not inspecting and testing process vessel and piping components. TPC faces $514,692 in civil OSHA fines.

Lawsuit Alleges AISD of Failing to Report Sex Assaults

Four families are suing the Austin school district, alleging that it failed to respond to reports of sexual abuse of students. The civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court said victims were sexually assaulted by either another student or a district staff member during their time in school.

Scooter Startup Bird Sued Over Alleged Safety Failings

Scooter startup Bird Rides Inc. is facing a mass tort lawsuit alleging the Santa Monica-based company failed to properly maintain scooter parts including brakes, wheels and throttles, resulting in the injury of the suit 41 plaintiffs. The suit, filed earlier this month in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that brake failure, sudden accelerations, faulty throttle buttons and wheels resulted in injuries such as fractures, broken bones and concussions in states including California, Colorado and Virginia.

Texas Residents File Suit Against TXDOT Over Repeated Flooding

Residents of Chambers County, Texas, have filed suit against the Texas Department of Transportation ("TXDOT") over "repeated flooding of thousands of acres of property." According to the complaint, the design of a highway has caused properties along I-10 to flood frequently. Plaintiffs allege that transportation engineers chose to use a type of barrier that retains water upstream rather than letting the water flow downstream, causing the flooding.

Outbreaks of COVID-19 Claim Lives at North Texas Long-Term Care Facilities

Statewide, more than 1,500 people have died from COVID-19. Of those, at least 44% have been in long-term care facilities. County records show 81 of those deaths have been in Dallas County long-term care facilities.

Glendale Nursing Home Subject of COVID-19 Lawsuit
 
A nursing home in Glendale, California, has been hit with a lawsuit filed by the wife and children of a man who died there of COVID-19. The 77-year-old passed away after contracting the coronavirus, and the complaint alleges it was a result of the nursing home's response to the virus. According to the lawsuit, Glenhaven Healthcare prevented staff from wearing masks and gloves during the pandemic, downplayed risks and withheld information about the facility's exposure to COVID-19. The lawsuit was recently filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
