Jury Awards $3M to Fired Nurse who Complained of 'Rushing Patients Through' to Save Money

A Portland jury on Friday awarded a nurse more than $3 million -- agreeing that she was wrongfully terminated by Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center after she complained to management that cost-cutting measures were jeopardizing patient care. Registered nurse Linda Boly said Saturday that she felt vindicated by the verdict. She hopes it sends a "big message" to Legacy Health System that "rushing patients through" the process endangers them.

Target Agrees to Pay $18.5 Million to Settle Data-Breach Lawsuit

Target Corp. agreed to pay $18.5 million to settle state lawsuits over a 2013 hack of its database when the personal information of millions of customers was stolen, according to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

California Gas Station Cheese Causes Man's Botulism Death, Says Lawsuit

A lawsuit has been filed in California alleging that nacho cheese from a gas station in Walnut Grove was the cause of one man's death. The man was one of ten people who fell ill after consuming the cheese at the Valley Oak Food and Fuel. The food was linked to a rare form of food poisoning that sickened customers over a period of a few weeks. The California Department of Public Health announced that the cheese tested positive for the toxin that causes botulism, a severe illness marked by vomiting, blurry vision and gradual paralysis.

North Carolina Bullying Incident Subject of Lawsuit

A lawsuit has been filed over an incident in which a North Carolina student was injured in an alleged bullying attack. The lawsuit was filed by the family of the Wake County student who suffered a "major head injury" when he suffered a fall. The lawsuit, filed against the Wake County school system, the former principal and a teacher, alleges that the student had been a victim of repeated bullying prior to the injury. The young student suffered the injury when he was allegedly pushed by another student and hit his head on a table.

Seattle Firefighter Injured in Explosion Files Suit

A firefighter from Seattle has filed a lawsuit over an incident in which he was injured during a natural gas explosion. The lawsuit was filed against Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and its contractor over the incident in which the plaintiff was injured in the explosion which leveled two buildings. According to the 50-year-old plaintiff, the explosion 'blew me and pretty much everybody standing in that back alley onto our faces.' The plaintiff had been with the Seattle Fire Department for about 18 years prior to the incident.

Parents of Illinois Bullying Victim File Suit Against School

The parents of an alleged victim of bullying and harassment at an Illinois middle school have filed a lawsuit. The parents of the young girl, a former student at Central Middle School in the Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124, filed suit alleging that the school district did not act on reports of abuse by a male student. The plaintiffs allege in their complaint that the boy had been terrorizing girls at the school since the 2015-2016 school year. According to the complaint, the male student had habitually bullied, assaulted and sexually harassed female students prior to attacking the plaintiffs' daughter.
