California Schools Sue JUUL Labs Over E-Cigarette Epidemic

JUUL Labs Inc. is facing a lawsuit filed by 27 California school districts over harm caused by the company's e-cigarettes. Plaintiffs blame JUUL for its role in creating an e-cigarette epidemic and resurgence in youth nicotine addiction, which they allege has impeded learning environments in schools across California. The school districts seek injunctive relief and abatement remedy to combat the e-cigarette epidemic.

Facebook Users Snag $550 Million Settlement in Privacy Lawsuit

Facebook users have received a $550 million settlement in a lawsuit over biometric data. The lawsuit alleged Facebook illegally gathered biometric data through a photo-tagging tool. Per the settlement, class members will get from $150 to $300, or between 15% and 30% of the possible recovery on an individual claim. The settlement is projected to be the largest privacy settlement in U.S. history.

Relatives of Worker Who Died of Cancer File Suit Against Monsanto, School District

The relatives of a California man who died of cancer have filed suit against the Inglewood Unified School District and Monsanto, claiming his death was related to the use of herbicide Roundup. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by the man's widow and her son, alleges wrongful death, negligence, fraud, strict liability, and breach of implied warranty. The plaintiffs allege the defendants were aware of the harmful nature of Roundup and that the herbicide would likely cause cancer and death to those using the product on a regular basis.

Kansas County's Customer Tracking Order Violates Rights, Alleges Lawsuit
A newspaper publisher and a restaurant owner in Linn County, Kansas, have filed a lawsuit alleging customer tracking ordered by county officials is a violation of customer rights. The order instructed dentists, pharmacies, banks, retailers, restaurants, and others to begin maintaining a list of their in-person customers for a minimum of 30 days. The lawsuit, filed Sunday in United States District Court for the District of Kansas, alleges the order authorizes warrantless searches and seizures.

Essential Workers In Brownsville Worry As OSHA Lets Employers Set Protections

The number of COVID-19 cases in Texas continues to rise, and the state is continuing to open up. This has some workers across the state worried. But essential workers have been on the job for weeks now. Under existing OSHA standards the employer must provide safeguards such as Personal Protective Equipment. However, the problem now is that there's limited oversight. A public OSHA MEMO shows a sample letter that will be sent to companies, in cases when an employee files a complaint, to take matters into their own hands. It asks companies to conduct their own investigation because OSHA, 'does not intend to conduct an on-site inspection at this time."

TX Governor Orders Coronavirus Tests for All Nursing Home Residents

Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday said Texas will begin testing all nursing home residents and staff for the new coronavirus, following public pleas and a directive from the White House to boost surveillance at the facilities nationwide. Nearly half of the reported COVID-19 deaths in Texas have been at nursing homes or assisted living centers, according to records.
