spacer image
Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle has joined a lawsuit against the maker of an endoscopic device which led to infections in 39 patients. The lawsuit, filed by the widow of a man who became infected by one of the devices and later died, originally named the hospital as a defendant. The lawsuit is now filed solely against Olympus America, the maker of the infected duodenoscope. The "superbug" transmitted by the use of the medical devices has a fatality rate of about 40% and is resistant to "last defense" antibiotics.
