Minnesota Catholic Bishop Named in Lawsuit Alleging Coercion, Hiding Sex Abuse |
A lawsuit filed on Tuesday accuses a Catholic bishop from Minnesota of conspiring to keep an aspiring deacon from alerting officials about sex abuse by a senior church member nearly 50 years ago. According to the complaint, the bishop threatened the plaintiff's attempt to become a deacon and his son's future as a priest in order to keep the abuse allegations quiet. The suit was filed in Polk County Court in Crookston and is reportedly the first time a U.S. bishop has been individually targeted in a lawsuit alleging coercion. The Diocese of Crookston, which has also been named as defendant in the lawsuit, along with the bishop, has denied the lawsuit's claims. Timothy Mclaughlin, Colorado Springs Gazette 05/10/2017 |
