FOX 4 DFW News Station Investigation: TX Medical Board |
| Top secret meetings, back-door deals and confidential complaints are all a part of the Texas Board of Medical Examiners. The state board is supposed to be policing doctors and protecting the public but some patients complain the system is a prescription for failure. In 2003 Texas lawmakers put caps on medial malpractice lawsuits but promised to keep a tight rein on doctors by beefing up the Texas board. Fox 4 has been looking into the board's practices for some time but late Monday afternoon we found another example of why some patients question who the board really protects. |

Fla. Supreme Court Hears Class Action Argument |
| A pay day loan company's lawyer argued Wednesday that the Florida Supreme Court must uphold a contract provision prohibiting customers from banding together in class action arbitration cases against the firm because of a 2011 U.S. Supreme Court decision. The state justices' decision will affect similar clauses widely used to require customers to sign away their right to sue in exchange for case-by-case arbitration to resolve potential allegations that businesses have violated usury, deceptive practices or other consumer protection laws. The clauses are designed to avoid costly lawsuits and often include confidentiality provisions to keep the results from becoming public. Honda Wins Appeal of Small-Claims Hybrid Judgment |
| A judge overturned a nearly $10,000 small claims judgment against American Honda Motor Co. that was won by a car owner who said the automaker misrepresented that her hybrid Civic could get 50 miles per gallon, according to a ruling released Wednesday. Superior Court Judge Dudley W. Gray II ruled on Honda's appeal of a court commissioner's award of $9,867 to Heather Peters. Gray's ruling found, among other things, that Peters had standing to bring the case in state court, but it's actually federal regulations that govern fuel economy ratings and related advertising claims.
