New Mexico Man Hit by Police Officer During Chase Files Suit

A resident of Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, has filed a lawsuit against the New Mexico State Police officer who crashed into his vehicle during a high-speed chase. The complaint filed Monday in District Court alleges the 62-year-old plaintiff suffered spinal fractures and injuries to his ribs and right knee from the head-on collision. The officer was pursuing another driver who was not wearing his seat belt when he crashed into the plaintiff's vehicle. The lawsuit seeks compensation for past and future pain and suffering, medical expenses, emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life, as well as punitive damages for the nature, extent, and duration of his injuries.

Gallbladder Surgery Postponed Indefinitely, Patient Files Suit

A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a New Mexico man whose surgery was postponed. The plaintiff, who suffers from gallstones, was scheduled to have his gallbladder removed last month, but the surgery was postponed indefinitely by doctors. The lawsuit was filed in state District Court in Albuquerque on Wednesday against state Department of Health Secretary Kathy Kunkel. It states that the "public health order restricting medical procedures is too vague."

For three weeks the Food and Drug Administration allowed the sale of several types of N95-style face masks for American health care workers despite evidence from other parts of the federal government that the masks were not effective for blocking the coronavirus. Worker Lawsuit Against Smithfield Foods Dismissed by Judge
A lawsuit against Smithfield Foods Inc, over employee protections from the coronavirus has been dismissed by a federal judge. A Smithfield plant in Missouri failed to adequately protect employees from the novel coronavirus, alleged the complaint. District Judge Greg Kays in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday dismissed the lawsuit filed by a worker advocacy group. In his ruling, Kays noted that the federal government, and not the courts, were responsible for overseeing working conditions.

College Station Care Home Sued Over COVID-19 Death

Fay Boothe alleges in the suit against The Waterford at College Station, filed Wednesday in district court in Brazos County, that the facility 'neglected to provide appropriate essential care' to her husband, Joe, while he was in isolation, leading to his death. Boothe also claims that the facility failed to fully inform the family about the risk of infection from COVID-19 and about his care. The suit comes as health care facilities in Texas and across the country ask lawmakers for immunity from legal action related to COVID-19.

Seven Corpus Christi Meat Plant Workers Test Positive

Seven employees at the STX Beef Co. plant in Corpus Christi have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, and three are hospitalized. Nueces County Health Director Annette Rodriguez told the Caller-Times Thursday afternoon health officials received word of a seventh positive COVID-19 case reported at the beef processing plant.

Judge Grants Temporary Restraining Order Allowing a Restaurant Group Worker the Right to Return to Work and Wear a Mask

State District Judge Tonya Parker granted a temporary restraining order Thursday allowing a Hillstone Restaurant Group employee the right to return to work while wearing a mask as protection from possible communal spread of COVID-19. Hillstone has told workers they can't wear masks, two employees of the Hillstone location in University Park told The Dallas Morning News this week.
