The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Birmingham, alleges the plaintiff was prescribed Zofran to cut down on nausea while pregnant and that it caused multiple birth defects in her son. The boy, now 8 years old, was born with a high narrow pallet, extra digits on his hands, a distended kidney and has been diagnosed with glaucoma. Zofran has responded to the lawsuit by stating that the medication does not cause birth defects. The company is seeking the lawsuit's dismissal.
