The woman claims diocese employees failed to protect the girl at the event and tried to cover up the incident after it occurred. The church claims the sex was consensual, despite a rape conviction for the man responsible. The suit is seeking unspecified damages. The intersection near N.C. 49, off Riverpointe Drive and Grand Palisades Parkway, had become dangerously busy with the booming residential area. The lawsuit contends that the developer did not want to pay the funds to have the light installed, but the developer says the city did not require a signal. The lawsuit is seeking $5 million in damages for each victim. The parents of the student say the sorority sisters "participated in the initiation ritual [drinking] at the fraternity house" and could have provided the minor with alcohol. The lawsuit, which is seeking $3 million, accuses the company of failing to "install, secure and repair metal grating floor panels."
