Florida School District Racist, Suit Says |
| A lawsuit has been filed against a Florida school district accusing district officials of racism, civil rights violations and false imprisonment. In the suit, two black women claimed they scored highly on a nursing school entrance exam but were accused of cheating, being told "you people don't score that high." Suit Filed Against Pennsylvania Voter ID Law |
| A voter rights group in Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit against a new state law requiring voters to show photo ID before being able to vote. The lawsuit claims many will be denied their right to vote because they cannot obtain acceptable ID due to lack of birth certificates. Girl Disciplined for Sitting During Pledge, Suit Settled |
| A lawsuit has been settled between a 13-year-old and the Brownsville Area School District near Pittsburgh over disciplinary actions taken against the student for declining to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance. The student said she was sent to lunch detention and in-school suspensions for declining to stand during the daily ritual. After filing her suit, however, the district backed down, removing blemishes from her disciplinary record and halting discipline going forward. Wrongful Death Suit Filed in Virginia Police Shooting |
| The fatal shooting of a Hampton, Va., man during the execution of a search warrant has prompted a $10 million lawsuit against eight local police officers. The lawsuit, filed by the man's estate, claims the police documentation used to procure the search warrant "didn't lay out probable cause."
