Auto maker BMW has announced it will recall about 1.3 million BMW 5 and 6 series vehicles, built between 2003 and 2010, due to an electrical flaw in the battery cable. The company said the battery cable cover may be "incorrectly mounted," which could lead to electrical malfunctions and the car's failure to start. There have been no accidents reported in association with electrical malfunctions.  Staff Report, WSJ Blogs  03/26/2012

Police Actions During Hall Patrols Questioned in Suit

spacer image

A lawsuit has been filed against the NYPD for unlawfully patrolling the halls of certain apartment complexes and questioning residents. According to the suit, police often "throw residents against the wall" and question them, and some have ended up in jail for alleged trespassing. The patrols are part of the Operation Clean Halls program in an attempt to protect residents in high-crime areas. The suit is not asking for an end to the program, but rather "seeking to restrain police from stopping people and questioning them."  Jonathan Allen, Reuters  03/29/2012
