Police Chief Awarded $2 Million in Discrimination Suit

A federal jury in Washington has awarded $2 million to the former police chief in Medina, deciding that he was discriminated against when he was fired in 2011. In his lawsuit, the plaintiff claimed the Medina city manager had fired him because of her "old-school racism" against non-white department heads.

Tarrant County Accused of Racial Discrimination

An employee with Tarrant County Juvenile Services in the Fort Worth, Texas, area has filed a lawsuit against the department, claiming a "pattern of institutional racial discrimination." The plaintiff says in his suit that the discrimination began in 2005 when he was passed over for a promotion. In 2010 his position was terminated and he was demoted and then denied the opportunity to apply for another position that would come with a pay raise. The lawsuit also states that the county tries to pit Hispanics and African Americans against each other within departments.

Suit: Officers Rape Inmates in OK Prison

A group of female inmates at the Comanche County jail in Oklahoma have filed a lawsuit against detention officers, accusing them of raping and assaulting female inmates. The suit claims that officers forced female inmates to perform sexual acts on them in return for things such food, and that guards sodomized inmates during booking "under the guise of cavity searches." The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.

Hospital Settles Whistleblower Lawsuit

A former hospice physician at Laguna Honda Hospital will receive $750,000 in the settlement of a wrongful termination lawsuit. In the lawsuit, the plaintiff claimed the hospital fired him and another employee for raising complaints about the improper use of donations to a patient gift fund.
