Iowa Boy Dies During Tonsillectomy, Family Files Suit

The family of an Iowa boy who died during a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy is one of many affected by such deaths. The family filed suit after the 12-year-old suffered cardiac arrest during the procedure and died. According to their complaint, the center and anesthesiologist erred in giving the boy a drug that carries a warning about cardiac arrest risk in young boys. The defendants have responded by stating the boy died as a result of pre-existing conditions, acts of others, or conditions over which (defendants) had no control or responsibility.
