Driver, Bars Named in Fatal Truck Accident Suit

The estate of a Michigan man killed in a fatal crash in September 2011 has filed suit against the driver who caused the accident and the two bars the driver and passengers had visited on the night of the wreck. The driver's blood alcohol content was 0.20 when he crashed into an oil-change shop in Warren, Mich., killing both of the passengers in the truck. The trio allegedly had been drinking at a local Hard Rock Cafe and a gentlemen's club long into the night. The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.

Sexual Abuse Suit Filed Against Seattle Priest

A Seattle man has filed a lawsuit against a member of the Seattle Archdiocese and the Christian Brothers religious order, claiming he was sexually abused as a child. The suit says that in 1975, the defendant abused the plaintiff in the gymnasium of a local high school and then again two years later. The defendant is described as a "habitual molester of male students."

Pizza Hut Franchise Company Named in Wage Suit

Pizza Hut employees have filed five lawsuits against franchises across the country owned by NPC International alleging improper overtime payments. The lawsuits all contended that franchise owners forced or encouraged employees to work off the clock without pay. One of the suits claims managers forced employees to attend training sessions off the clock, another alleges overtime was not paid to workers who worked more than 40 hours.

5,600 Fords Recalled over Child Lock Issue

Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall of 2013 Focus, C-Max and Escape vehicles due to mechanical issues with the child locks. The company said the child locks on the rear left doors were improperly made, meaning the locks can fail to engage. The recall covers more than 5,600 vehicles.

Oil, Gas Boom Make Roads More Dangerous

Fatal traffic accidents increased 40 percent in the Eagle Ford Shale region last year, with preliminary data showing what everyone already knew anecdotally: the oil and gas boom has made South Texas roads more dangerous.A sharp uptick in the number of cars and trucks of all sizes, quickly deteriorating road conditions and issues such as narrow, rural roads without shoulders have played a role in the increases, officials said at a road safety event Friday in Karnes County, one of the busiest areas for drilling in the Eagle Ford.
