Suit Says Novant Health Costs Employees Millions

A lawsuit has been filed accusing Novant Health of causing their employees to lose millions of dollars in their retirement plans by paying unnecessarily high fees and making poor investment decisions. According to the lawsuit, with the company's 25,000 participants and $1.2 billion in assets, it should be able to negotiate lower fees, but instead pays about double what comparable companies do. The lawsuit seeks a class-action status on behalf of Novant employees.

Court Says State Not Liable for Contractor’s Work in State Fair Stage Collapse

spacer image

A Marion County court has ruled the State of Indiana isn’t responsible for defending or assuming the liability for the private company that supplied the stage rigging that collapsed at the Indiana State Fair on August 13, 2011. A Marion County Superior Court judge ruled against Mid-America Sound Corp. and in favor of the Indiana State Fair Commission. Mid-America Sound had claimed it had a contractual right to be protected by the State. In denying Mid-America’s motion, the court ruled Monday that the State Fair Commission is not responsible for indemnifying or defending the private company.

The state of Washington has agreed to pay $8 million to settle a lawsuit filed by six siblings who allege they were abused while in the care of a family member. General Motors Co. said late Wednesday it knew of faulty ignition switches dating back as early as 2001—three years earlier than previously reported—and has yet to determine the full scope of the problem. Separately, Delphi Automotive the maker of the component at the heart of a 1.6 million-vehicle recall said it only costs a few dollars to produce and minutes to install and told Wall Street analysts this week it expects to spend between $2 and $5 to produce a replacement ignition switch that can then be "swapped out" in a matter of minutes by mechanics at GM dealerships.
