$12.75M Awarded to Man Who Suffered Brain Injury During Surgery |

A Pennsylvania man who suffered brain damage when a medical device broke during surgery will receive $12.75 million. The plaintiff underwent surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to remove a benign tumor. During the surgery, the tip of a carbon dioxide-cooled laser probe snapped off, causing carbon dioxide to jet directly into his brain. Iowa Man Suffers Permanent Damage from Flesh-Eating Bacteria |

An Iowa man says staff at a Des Moines hospital failed to act fast enough when he contracted a flesh-eating bacteria. He and his attorneys are preparing to file a lawsuit alleging that a misdiagnosis and delayed treatment left him disfigured for the rest of his life. The dialysis, treatments and medications he now requires cost him between $160,000 and $200,000 per month. The hospital where he received treatment has not been revealed. Harris County Sues Generic Drug Makers |

Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan has filed a federal lawsuit against 43 manufacturers of generic drugs he alleges have engaged in a price-fixing scheme that has cost taxpayers millions. Ryan said the companies sought to limit competition and increased prices of at least 181 generic drugs, including those used to treat heart failure, seizures, bacterial infections, high blood pressure, epilepsy and asthma. Apple Pays $500 Million to Settle Lawsuit Over Slow iPhones |

A settlement calls for tech giant Apple to pay up to $500 million to settle a lawsuit over slow iPhones. The lawsuit accused the company of slowing down older iPhones in an effort to induce owners to buy replacement phones or batteries. Customers allege that Apple misled them into believing their phones were near the end of their life cycles.
