The Environmental Protection Agency is facing a lawsuit over halting an Obama administration methane pollution rule for the oil and natural gas industry. The lawsuit was filed in the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Monday by a coalition of environmental groups. The complaint alleges that the EPA under the Trump administration illegally skipped the required process when it put a 90-day halt on the standards to limit methane pollution. Included in the list of plaintiffs are the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Sierra Club.

Chipotle has been accused in a lawsuit of failing to pay its workers overtime pay. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, alleges that the Mexican food restaurant chain failed to correctly pay its employees overtime pay. According to the complaint, Chipotle should have paid some workers who were made eligible for overtime pay by a decision by the U.S. Labor Department. The lawsuit was filed by a New Jersey woman who contends she was not paid overtime despite working over 40 hours per week.

Methodist Hospital Sued Over Alleged Secret Taping of Patient Calls

A prominent doctor alleged in a lawsuit filed in state district court that Houston Methodist Hospital secretly recorded telephone conversations between patients and nurses without their knowledge for as long as eight years. The practice, if true, may violate state and federal privacy laws, legal specialists said. Eric Haufrect, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, said he complained to top Methodist officials when he learned of the recordings from his nurse and believed it was his duty to report the breach of confidentiality to executives, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday in state district court in Harris County. Less than two months later he was removed as vice chairman of the obstetrics and gynecology department and became the target of a "whisper campaign" by the hospital to damage his reputation, according to the lawsuit.

Malpractice Damage Caps Struck Down by Florida Supreme Court
TThe Florida Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that a law limiting pain-and-suffering damages in medical malpractice cases is unconstitutional, rejecting a controversial change that the Legislature and then-Gov. Jeb Bush approved in 2003. Justices were sharply divided, with the four-member majority finding that the caps on 'non-economic' damages violated equal-protection rights. Also, the majority disputed that a malpractice insurance 'crisis' exists ' a justification that lawmakers used in approving the limits.
