Court Rules Against Georgia Woman in Faulty Medical Device Case

A Georgia woman has lost her case against the company which made the medical device that broke inside her body. The woman filed suit against Bard, the maker of the metal filter implant which broke, leaving a broken wire permanently stuck in the blood vessel between her heart and lungs. The woman's lawsuit was among five whose lawsuits were chosen to be tried as bellwether cases for the group. Over 3,000 people have filed suit against Bard over the faulty devices.

Georgia Surgeon Who Danced During Operation, Posted Patient Photos, Facing Lawsuits

A Georgia surgeon is facing a number of lawsuits after a video was posted online of her dancing to music while operating on patients. One woman recently filed suit alleging that she was permanently disfigured during a cosmetic surgery conducted by Dr. Windell C. Davis-Boutte. Another lawsuit filed last week alleges that Boutte posted photos of a patient's body, even after the patient had expressly forbidden the doctor from using any photos of her without her permission. The surgeon has reportedly settled four malpractice lawsuits but has not been subjected to any public disciplinary orders from the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

Suit against Omni Hotels: Employee Drowned in Harvey Flood Waters

Ella Jill Renick, 48, an employee of the Omni Houston Hotel who drowned in the hotel during Hurricane Harvey struggled for more than five minutes to escape rising floodwaters in the basement of the hotel, according to a lawsuit filed this week by her family. The lawsuit was filed with the 44th Civil District Court in Dallas County.

Goodyear Settles Wrongful Death Suit Over Motorcycle Crash

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is settling a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a man who was killed when the tire on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle failed. A trial in the case was scheduled to begin Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Sioux Falls. The man's widow filed suit against Goodyear alleging that the company knowingly sold a defective tire, which led to the fatal crash involving the couple. In addition to her husband's fatal injuries, the plaintiff alleges she suffered serious and permanent injuries, including mental anguish. The terms of the settlement are confidential.

VA Hospital Improperly Inflated Catheter, Allegedly Causing Man's Death

A lawsuit has been filed alleging staff at the Kansas City VA Medical Center improperly inflated a catheter, causing a man to contract a blood infection and die. The lawsuit was filed by the widow of the 52-year-old man who went to the hospital to treat a bladder issue. According to the wrongful death suit, the patient went into septic shock and died May 16, 2016 after hospital staff improperly inflated his catheter. The lawsuit states that the man had multiple sclerosis and a traumatic brain injury and was living in a nursing home.
