San Francisco and Oakland's Climate Change Lawsuit Against Big Oil Dismissed

A climate change lawsuit filed by the cities of San Francisco and Oakland has been tossed out by a federal judge. The lawsuit was filed against five large oil companies and alleged that for decades the defendants hid the effect of fossil fuels on global warming and sea level rise. The complaint sought to recover costs associated with sea walls and other shoreline defenses intended to protect against sea level rise. Oakland is reviewing the ruling and may file an appeal.

Geico To Pay $2M In Bad Faith Lawsuit By Injured Cyclist

Insurer Geico has been hit with a post-apportionment award of more than $2 million in a cyclist's bad-faith lawsuit. The complaint was filed by the cyclist who was injured when he was struck by a driver. According to the plaintiff, no money was received from Geico after the incident. The $2 million award to the cyclist was handed down by a federal jury in Columbus. It is expected that Geico will appeal the recent ruling.

Woman Falls Ill After Eating Fried Rice, Files Suit Against Texas Restaurant

A Texas restaurant is facing a lawsuit by a woman from Ellis County who says she became ill after eating at the establishment. According to the plaintiff, she became ill after eating fried rice at the Asian King Buffet in Waxahachie in 2016. The lawsuit alleges "as a result of consuming the fried rice in question, [the plaintiff] ingested Bacillus cereus,â?? which caused her to become ill. The plaintiff is seeking $1 million in damages from the restaurant.

Lexus Recalls 121K V6 Cars

Lexus is recalling about 121,000 cars worldwide because of fuel leaks in the engine that can cause fires. The recall covers certain 2006 through 2013 IS350 cars, as well as the 2010 through 2014 IS350C, and the 2007 through 2011 GS350 and GS450h. All have 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engines.
