Reaches $9.3M Verdict Against Austin Energy, Others |

A Travis
County jury found that Austin Energy was negligent in operating and
maintaining high voltage power lines that ran "dangerously close" to the side
of the OK Corral Night Club.The jury found that the negligence was a proximate
cause of an electrocution that killed Jaime Membreno on Feb. 12, 2009. The
jury apportioned liability against multiple parties: 34% to the construction
company, 30% to the bar owner, 26% to Austin Energy and 10% to the
deceased.

Carolina Woman Overdoses, Family Files Suit Against Doctor and
Pharmacies |

A
wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the family of a South Carolina woman
who died after overdosing on pain killers. The 33-year-old woman suffered from
terrible migraines and a brain pressure disorder and was prescribed more than
2,000 pills over two years, including opioids and addictive drugs. The lawsuit
alleges the woman's doctor should have evaluated her more thoroughly and known
that she was becoming addicted to the pain killers. Named as defendants in the
lawsuit are Walmart, Walgreens, Target and CVS pharmacies and the woman's
doctor.

Cleared of Liability in $23 Billion Lung Cancer Case |

American Inc.â??s has been cleared of liability in the death of a man from lung
cancer. The lawsuit alleged the 36-year-old's death was caused by a nicotine
addiction. Initially, the man's wife was awarded $23 billion punitive damages
award from a Florida jury in July 2014. The amount represented 75% of
Reynoldsâ?? market capitalization. The amount of punitive damages in the case
was later reduced to $16.9 million and then Reynolds was cleared of liability
in the case.

Mexico Announces $450,000 Settlement of Wrong Way Crash |

New
Mexico's General Services Department announced that the family of a man who
died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 25 will receive $450,000. The man's
family filed suit over the 23-year-old's death near Santa Fe in September
2016. The man died of injuries sustained in a crash with a woman who had more
than three times the limit of presumed intoxication. The Department of
Transportation and PCâ??s Restaurant and Lounge were named as defendants in the
lawsuit.
