Appeals Court Allows Federal Workers' Data Breach Lawsuit Against OPM

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals will allow a data breach lawsuit filed by two groups of federal workers against the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to go forward. The appeals court ruled that the 2015 data breach left the plaintiffs vulnerable to identity theft, a substantial and ongoing "injury," and that the breach was due to OPM's failure to adequately safeguard its systems. The data breach exposed the personal information of 22 million people.

Private College Faces Sexual Harassment, Wrongful Termination and Retaliation Allegations

St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas is facing a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment, wrongful termination and retaliation. The complaint was filed by three former professors â?? two who allege wrongful termination and one who alleges sexual harassment. Two of the plaintiffs, who were tenured professors, allege their contracts were broken when they were fired by the university. The other plaintiff alleges she was sexually harassed by a dean and that the school failed to protect her when she reported the abuse to Human Resources.

Lawsuit: Former Southern Baptist Leader, Humiliated Woman who Reported Rape

Paige Patterson, the former Southern Baptist Convention president who was recently removed as a seminary head for his handling of sex abuse claims, is being sued by a woman who says he threatened, intimidated and humiliated her after she reported multiple rapes to him. The woman, a former student of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary who is listed as â??Jane Roeâ?? in the suit, accuses Patterson of shaming and ignoring her after she said she was repeatedly stalked and raped at gunpoint by a male seminary student in 2014 and 2015.

Boeing Faces Lawsuit for 'Unprecedented Cover-up'

Boeing is facing a class-action lawsuit from more than 400 pilots who say the company covered up design flaws in its 737 Max planes. The Australian Broadcasting Company reported that the lawsuit alleged that Boeing engaged in and "unprecedented cover-up" of the "known design flaws" in the 737 Max planes. The case is set to be heard by a court in Chicago on October 21, according to ABC. The lawsuit's original plaintiff, identified only as "pilot X" due to the plaintiff's fears of reprisal from Boeing officials and customers, filed the suit Friday reportedly seeking damages.

Hotel Owner Sues Insurance Company after Vegas Mass Shooting

More than 4,000 people are seeking damages from MGM Resorts International related to the Las Vegas Strip mass shooting that left 58 people dead, the casino giant said in a lawsuit alleging its insurance company has failed to pay promised legal costs. Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts alleges breach-of-contract and accuses Illinois-based Zurich American Insurance Co. of failing to pay defense costs for damage claims stemming from the 2017 shooting.

Baby Formula Powder Recalled, May Contain Metal

Perrigo has announced it is voluntarily recalling more than 23,000 containers of baby formula powder because of the "potential presence of metal foreign matter," according to a release from the company. The nationwide recall is only for one lot of the 35-ounce, 992-gram containers of "Parentâ??s Choice Advantage Infant Formula Milk-Based Powder with Iron." The powder was sold exclusively at Walmart.
