Arbitration Clauses Requiring Confidentiality Are OK, NLRB Says

Businesses that require employees to go to arbitration to resolve work-related disputes also can mandate those workers to keep mum about the proceedings, the National Labor Relations Board ruled. The decision, released Friday, means employers can include carefully crafted confidentiality provisions in arbitration agreements, although thereâ??s still some legal risk in doing so.

J&J Loses Bid to Overturn Baby Powder Verdict - Damages Cut to $2.1B

A Missouri appeals court on Tuesday rejected Johnson & Johnsonâ??s bid to throw out a jury verdict in favor of women who blamed their ovarian cancer on its baby powder and other talc products, but reduced its damages award to $2.12 billion from $4.69 billion. The decision by the Missouri Court of Appeals, in a case brought by 22 women, followed J&Jâ??s announcement on May 19 that it would stop selling its talc Johnsonâ??s Baby Powder in the United States and Canada.

FDA Warns Against Using 9 Hand Sanitizers

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to use certain hand sanitizer products due to the potential presence of methanol. Samples of hand sanitizers manufactured by Eskbiochem SA de DV in Mexico were found to contain methanol which is toxic when ingested or absorbed through the skin, according to the FDA.

Family of Teen Killed at Basketball Game Files Suit Against Dallas School District

Dallas Independent School District (DISD) is facing a wrongful death lawsuit over a shooting that resulted in the death of a student. The 18-year-old was fatally shot earlier this year at a basketball game and his parents say the school district could have prevented his death. As alleged in their lawsuit, the school district failed to provide adequate security at the game, which could have prevented the shooting. "Metal detectors were installed at the facility, but were not properly functioning and in use on the date of the fatal shooting," states the lawsuit.

Defendants in Kobe Bryant's Death Seek to Move Case from Los Angeles

Defendants in the wrongful death lawsuit filed over a fatal helicopter crash that caused the deaths of basketball star Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and others have asked that the case be moved out of Los Angeles. Attorneys for the pilot facing the lawsuit argued that they cannot get a fair trial in Los Angeles, as it is the home of the Lakers, Bryant's former team. The lawsuit filed by Bryant's widow alleges Island Express Helicopters and late pilot Ara Zobayan were responsible for the fatal crash.
