Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Files Equal Pay Lawsuit Against Team |

A former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader has filed a lawsuit alleging she was paid a fraction of what the team's mascot was paid. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for Northern District of Texas on Tuesday, alleges that the team was in violation of The Equal Pay Act and Fair Labor Standards Act when it paid the cheerleader significantly less than the mascot. The plaintiff seeks to recover wages â??and all other available damages."

Kentucky Files Suit Against Walgreens Over Opioid Medications |

On Thursday, Kentucky's attorney general filed a lawsuit against Walgreens, alleging the pharmacy has given out opioid medications at an "alarming" rate. The complaint alleges that Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. has played a significant role in the nationwide opioid epidemic through its position as a pharmacy chain and wholesale drug distributor. This is the sixth lawsuit filed by Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear seeking to hold companies accountable for the epidemic.

San Diego to Pay $1.7M To Woman Injured in Segway Crash |
|
The city of San Diego, California, will pay $1.7 million to a woman who shattered her pelvis in a fall on a Segway. The settlement includes $1.5 million for the woman and $200,000 for her husband, in response to the lawsuit's claim that the injury damaged their marriage. The complaint was filed in July 2016 after the city rejected an injury claim by the woman. This is one of several lawsuits filed against the city over its lack of proper infrastructure, including even sidewalks.

Swimmer files Title IX Lawsuit Against Texas A&M |

A Texas A&M athlete has filed a Title IX lawsuit against the university, saying he was treated unfairly and wrongfully disciplined in a 2016 sexual misconduct case. The details of the case surfaced this month when the female student who accused Austin Van Overdam of assaulting her posted on Twitter her displeasure with his return to Texas A&M's swimming and diving team.The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Houston, says A&M showed gender bias in siding with Hannah Shaw during the 2016 student conduct hearing.

Texas Cancer Center Owes $4.3M For HIPAA Failings |

A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services administrative law judge has ordered a Texas-based cancer hospital to pay a $4.3 million penalty for three data breaches that exposed the personal health information of more than 33,000 people, the agency announced Monday. Administrative Law Judge Steven T. Kessel said that despite encryption protocols being in place for years at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the facility failed to adequately protect patient data including Social Security numbers, patient names and treatment records.

The NCAA and the widow of a former University of Texas defensive lineman alleging the organization could and should have prevented her late husbandâ??s chronic traumatic encephalopathy reached a settlement Friday, days into the first-ever trial about the NCAAâ??s responsibility for a football playerâ??s CTE.
