Wal-Mart Settles Discrimination Lawsuit Filed By Transgender Employee

Wal-Mart has settled a lawsuit alleging that it discriminated against a transgender employee. The lawsuit filed by the transgender woman alleged that the North Carolina store fired her for complaining about harassment. In a joint filing agreeing to dismiss the case in federal court in Greensboro, North Carolina, the company did not admit any wrongdoing. The details of the settlement have remained confidential.

Lawsuit: Tesla Fired Safety Official for Reporting Unsafe Conditions

A former high-level safety official at Tesla Inc. has sued the company for failing to treat injured employees and misclassifying work injuries to avoid reporting them as required by law. Carlos Ramirez, a director of environmental, health, safety and sustainability at Tesla until June 2017, alleges he was fired in retaliation for reporting unsafe working conditions, such as chemical exposures and fires, and for refusing to go along with what he believed to be illegal practices.

Louisiana's Harmony Center Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit Over Death of Disabled Woman

The Harmony Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is seeking the dismissal of a wrongful death lawsuit over the death of a woman with Down syndrome. The 35-year-old woman died last August after she was taken from the state-licensed Harmony Center facility to a hospital to undergo a sleep study. The wrongful death lawsuit filed by the woman's family in March alleges they did not authorize the sleep study. The case has been assigned to State District Judge Mike Caldwell.
