Water Complaints Pour in From Barnett Shale Region |
For many in the Chisholm Springs community north of Fort Worth, the water has been undrinkable. A News 8 investigation last April helped spawn a state investigation. But now, new complaints are pouring in -- not just from Chisholm Springs residents, but from communities all over northern Tarrant County. Dirty, smelly, undrinkable water complaints from residents of at least five other nearby communities all served by the same private ground water distribution company, Aqua Texas. Many of the residents filed complaints with state regulators at the TCEQ. Brett Shipp, WFAA.com 06/06/2016 |

Drowning Reveals Flaws in Pflugerville Water Park's Safety, Suit Argues |
Twice on Aug. 9, 2014, when the Hawaiian Falls water park in Pflugerville was hosting an event for special-needs children, EMS medics rushed to the park because of a crisis in the same wading pool. First, patrons flagged down a lifeguard because Irudayam Yeddanapalli, an 83-year-old, was at the bottom of a wading pool. Later that day, patrons had to notify lifeguards again when a deaf 2-year-old girl was at the bottom of the pool. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to a lawsuit. The 2-year-old survived, but Yeddanapalli died that day. Yeddanapalli's family hired a law firm, which conducted an investigation, and decided to file suit May 27 against Hawaiian Falls to hold the company accountable for what it says were unsafe conditions, an inadequate number of lifeguards and improperly trained lifeguards. Portland Jury Awards $8.75M to Man Who is Dying of Asbestos-Related Cancer |
A 65-year-old Beaverton man who is dying of asbestos-related cancer -- four decades after he was exposed to the material on Portland-area construction sites -- was awarded $8.75 million by a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury. The verdict for David Hoff and his wife came after 3½ weeks of trial showing that Kaiser Gypsum, the manufacturer of a spackle-like product used on wallboard, exposed Hoff to asbestos in the 1970s even though evidence presented at trial showed the company was aware of the hazards as early as 1965. VW, Audi Named In Another 'Catastrophic' Engine Defect Suit |
Volkswagen and Audi have been hit with another putative class action in New Jersey federal court accusing the German carmakers and their American subsidiaries of concealing information from consumers about a defect in certain models that "can result in catastrophic engine failure." The automakers allegedly have known about a defect in the timing chain tensioning system in the engines of several models that can unexpectedly fail during normal use, endanger vehicle passengers and cost car purchasers thousands of dollars' worth of damage.
