OSHA Chief: Accidents Reflect Lax Safety Culture in Texas |
Federal regulators have slapped three construction firms with nearly $800,000 in total penalties, saying the companies "put workers in tremendous danger" in Houston-area accidents that highlighted a lax safety culture that extends across Texas. Santa Fe Judge lets $165M Verdict Against FedEx Stand |
The FedEx shipping company's motion for a new trial in a wrongful death suit that resulted in the New Mexico's largest-ever jury award was rejected here Wednesday by a Santa Fe judge, who also declined to reduce the jury's $165 million judgment. A corporate spokesman for FedEx said later that the company, which was sued over a southern New Mexico crash involving a FedEx truck in which a mother and daughter were killed in 2011, will take the case to the state Court of Appeals. Fiat Chrysler Gets Record $105 Million Fine for Safety Issues |
Federal regulators on Sunday levied a record penalty of $105 million against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for failing to complete 23 safety recalls covering more than 11 million vehicles. The civil penalty is the largest ever imposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on an automaker for recall violations, surpassing the $70 million fine imposed last year on Honda for faulty airbags. 22 Banks Face Treasury Manipulation Lawsuit |
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against twenty-two financial companies over the alleged manipulation of Treasury auctions. The lawsuit is the first-ever nationwide class-action lawsuit alleging a manipulation of the Treasury which harmed both investors and borrowers. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants illegally attempted to profit on the sale of Treasury bills. Among those named in the lawsuit are Bank of America Corp's Merrill Lynch unit, Citigroup Inc, Credit Suisse Group AG, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs Group Inc, HSBC Holdings Plc, JPMorgan Chase & Co and UBS Group AG.
