Federal Judge Orders Bland Wrongful Death Suit to Mediation
spacer image
A federal judge in Houston Wednesday ordered mediation in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the mother of Sandra Bland, who apparently killed herself in the Waller County Jail three days after being arrested during a questionable traffic stop. If attorneys cannot resolve Geneva Reed-Veal's demand for damages - based on allegations of overreach by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Brian Encinia and gross negligence by the county -- the matter will return to U.S. District Judge David Hittner's courtroom.

Bar-S Recalls Hot Dogs, Corn Dogs Over Listeria Fears

Bar-S has issued a recall on their ready-to-eat, chicken and pork hot dog and corn dog due to a potential listeria contamination. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of the hot dogs and corn dogs produced between July 10 and 13 are included in the recent recall, according to Wednesday's press release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service. The USDA says that Bar-S has not gotten any test results back showing a positive listeria contamination, but the products were recalled as a cautionary measure. There have been no reports of illness in connection with the products, which were distributed nationwide.
