Court Dismisses Lawsuit to Block Landfill in Waco, Texas |
|
An
appeals court in Waco, Texas, has thrown out a lawsuit aimed at blocking the
expansion of a landfill in the city. Wacoâ??s 10th Court of Appeals ruled that
414th State District Judge Vicki Menard erred in not dismissing a breach of
contract lawsuit filed by Citizens To Save Lake Waco in January 2017. The
appeals court ruled that because the groupâ??s claims are "not ripe," Menard had
no jurisdiction to rule on the cityâ??s plea to the jurisdiction and has no
jurisdiction over Citizens to Save Lake Waco's claims.

The U.S.
Justice Department is pursuing a criminal investigation into whether Johnson &
Johnson lied to the public about the possible cancer risks of its talcum
powder, people with knowledge of the matter said. The criminal probe coincides
with a regulatory investigation and civil claims by thousands of cancer
patients that J&Jâ??s Baby Powder talc was responsible for their illness. Now, a
grand jury in Washington is examining documents related to what company
officials knew about any carcinogens in their products, the people
said.
